Flu Precautions
Parents should be mindful of the recommended precautions that should be taken in light of the H1N1 virus (swine flu). Families should ensure that children have received all recommended immunizations. To help contain the spread of the H1N1 virus, it is important to limit contact with others and to stay home from school or work when certain symptoms appear, including fever, cough, sore throat, headache, chills, fatigue, and body aches. Parents should plan now how to manage if a student is home with the flu for several days during the school year. Families should also remind children of the importance of hand washing and covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing.
The Virginia Department of Education has produced two videos to inform parents, teachers, and other educators of steps they can take to prevent the transmission of H1N1 influenza and seasonal influenza.
