Bull Run MS Wins World Championship Award

Team 1489D from Bull Run Middle School was one of ten Prince William County VEX robotics teams to travel to the VEX World Tournament in Anaheim, California.

In fact, Bull Run Middle School had three teams qualify for this international competition.

Team 1489D won seven judged awards in three different competitions and won multiple spots to attend the VEX World Tournament.

Team 1489D was awarded the Judges Award at this event beating out 480 other middle schools and 14 countries for this title. The Judges Award was given this team as they were considered the "most well-rounded team with a reliable robot." The judges were impressed with their colorful attire to show their team spirit and the engineering notebook which had a cover page in multiple languages for each of the countries presented. The referees were amazed in how polite the team was even shaking hands of the competing teams at the end of a match with all the other teams whether they won or lost that match - gracious professionalism.

Team captain Amr Metwally was asked about being on a team, in particular this team. He response was, "A lot of people might think that a perfect team doesn't have trouble. What I think is that there is no such thing as a perfect team. We all have arguments and disagreements but those imperfections is what makes us close as perfect as we even can be. We learn from our mistakes and make everything the best it can be. That's what I think a team is. A group of imperfect people who make the best of going from losing everything to be a world class team."

The international award winning Team 1489D members are Amr Metwally, Everett Michel, Michael Kelly, Jeremy Kochan, Sydney King, and Allie Curran. Their VEX robotics coach is Ms. Erin Stanton.

Congratulations to all of the members of Team 1489D. We are all very proud of your achievements and your high representation of Prince William County Public Schools.
